Dealing with Distress

Godffirmation is a God-blog and God-brand; offering godly affirmation and confirmation based on the scriptures.

Key verses: 1st Samuel 30:6

6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

David was in distress. An enemy of the children of Israel attacked and kidnapped two of David’s wives. This is an example to us today. David did something about his distress, he encouraged himself in the Lord. We should follow this example and encourage ourselves. The Hebrew word for encourage is chazaq. It means be strong, courageous, strengthen, cure, help, repair and is the feminine version of the word.

So David repaired himself in the Lord. Shifting your focus. is one of the first steps in bouncing back from challenges. You do acknowledge that there is an issue that needs to be dealt with but ask God for his help. David inquired of God, he prayed to the Lord while seeking a solution to the problems caused by his enemies. The problems created issues for the country. The citizens wanted to stone him.
