Greater Than
In elementary school mathematics, we learn greater than and less than. There are symbols for this that used to teach us how to compute these math problems. > means greater than and < means less than. In our lives Christ > everything. God > everything, you get the point right.
There comes a time in everyone’s life when we want God to show up in a big way! We want Him to be the God that is displayed in so many of the stories in the bible. It seems that in some of the circumstances we face, He is not around. But this is far from the truth. As a matter of fact He is always there and ready to respond but sometimes we do not ask Him for the right things!
ELIJAH AND THE PROPHETS OF BAAL
Scriptures: 1st Kings 18
When we face things head on, we can do it with success while God fights for us. Remember the prophet Elijah? He was convinced that he was alone and there were over 400 false prophets at Mount Carmel. In the end Elijah got an answer from God and the false prophets God did not answer. God showed up for Elijah in a mighty way!
Sometimes we feel alone, like we are the only one experiencing something. The back story for Elijah is Jezebel was trying to have God’s prophets killed. Some of the prophets were hidden by Obadiah. This is a situation that would have been of great concern to me. It can also help to explain why Elijah would run when he heard that Jezebel was after him. Unfortunately, it shows that he quickly forgot the actions of God against the false prophets.
Feeling alone is not an excuse to forget about God is it? We should not go hide because of a person’s prior behavior or attitude towards us when we have God and His defense of our lives at our fingertips. Eventually, Elijah was caught up in a chariot after placing his mantle on Elisha. The good thing is Elijah left a protégé or mentee that could continue the will of God in the Earth.
Having Christ as our savior and the hand of God on our lives, this is enough to keep things that may come to harm us at bay. God is greater than this and should be worshipped in the way He deserves to be! Let the story of Elijah remind you that God can do anything. God can do the impossible for you! Make time for God, He has time for you!
“Greater is He that is in me; than he that is in the world.”
Scriptures: 1st John 4:4-6, 1st Kings 18
