Random Plans

Does it seem random? Things seem random because we have forgotten what God said.

2nd Chronicles 18:13 (KJV)

And Micaiah said, As the Lord liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.

Hurtle verses Hurdle

Facing challenges seems overwhelming, especially when there seems to be no help or hope insight. Sometimes hurdles feel like hindrances, but if you are experienced at this track event you know how to jump over them. A hurdle by definition means to leap over especially by running, overcome or surmount. But did you know there is a word that is similar? The word is hurtle. There is a very small difference, in fact it is one letter. This word has a different meaning. Hurtle means move rapidly or forcefully, hurl or fling.

Now that you know there is a difference what do you think? Are circumstances being hurtled at you and you have to get over the hurdle? You see what I did there. The words have different meanings but can take place during one life event. Sometimes it feels like we can miss what is coming our way but if you know how to leap, it can help you get out of the way.

Micaiah vs. 400 Prophets

1st Kings 22:6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

The prophet Micaiah had a daunting task. There were 400 prophets that spoke falsely about an upcoming battle for Ahab and Samaria. He spoke and was obedient to God even after a messenger told him to say something ‘good’. In 1st Kings 22, Micaiah tells them a lying spirit was put in the mouths of the prophets. Micaiah who is also a prophet tells the truth and gets smote.

verse 24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto thee?

Micaiah is sent to prison and afflicted. Now there is a hurtle and Micaiah had to hurdle. Do you see the connection? Like the prophet Elijah vs the prophets of Baal, Micaiah had a battle or showdown too. It is the same King Ahab who worships Baal that sent Micaiah to the governor for his jail sentence. By the way, Micaiah spoke the word of the Lord and Ahab is hit by an arrow while in disguise (yikes). It seemed like a random act because “ a certain man drew an arrow at venture.” The actions of God are never random when they are in His will.

What should you do when things are being hurtled at you?

  1. Inquire of God

  2. Wait and listen to hear His voice

  3. Obey Him

  4. Testify about God’s will coming to past in your life

You can get over that hurdle. Even when there are 400 liars, God has the final say so with His truth. Micaiah “stood on business” as the current vernacular states. He spoke and obeyed God, Ahab was not victorious.
