Dealing with Insecurity
Godffirmation is affirmation and confirmation based on the scriptures. A God-blog and a God-brand.
KEY VERSE:
2nd Samuel 9:8b “What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?”
INSECURITY
Sometimes we try to cover up our true selves because we are insecure. But how does God view us? He says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We should call say the things that God says about us. It is encouraging to know that God wants us to know that in His eyes we are special. It is important to know who you are in Christ. The identity in Christ is what helps us deal with insecurity. Insecurity means, a lack of confidence or assurance (www.dictionary.com/browse/insecurity). Don’t you want to be secure in your God-given identity?
Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan is talking to David in this scripture. He refers to himself as a dead dog. David told him he is showing him kindness and favor. This statement tells us that the grandson of Saul sees himself in a state of unworthiness. It shows his lack of confidence or assurance. In the verse 2nd Samuel 9:7, David says four things:
Fear Not
I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake
will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father
Thou shalt eat bread at my table continually
David wants to bless him. But he thought so lowly of himself, his statement did not say thank you. He talked down about himself. How many times have you talked down about yourself? You have to know who you are in Christ! Your identity in Christ is what we should walk in. The scriptures hold the language we should say to ourselves. Speak life-giving words to yourself. Then the fruit you bear will be good and you can eat words of life.
SPEAK LIFE-GIVING WORDS TO YOURSELF
I am alive in Christ
I have the mind of Christ
I have been redeemed and set free by Christ
I am holy and blameless before Him
My needs are supplied by God through His riches in glory
I know who I am in Christ, I am beloved by Him
Statements like the above bullet point list are bible based. We should encourage ourselves and reframe our negative thoughts concerning our lives. Your mindset towards your life is impacting you in ways you cannot even imagine. It is time to change our minds, so our hearts can change. Then the direction of our lives will change. It takes careful examination and some of the feelings that come up may be uncomfortable, but it is worth it!
Use scripture to replace self-defeating thoughts.
