The Impotent Man

There was an impotent man, that sat by a pool and waited to be placed in the water to get healed. The word impotent means not potent, lacking in power, strength, or vigor; helpless (https:///dictionary/impotent). The words in this definition are the opposite of who God is and who Jesus came to Earth to present. The man is described based on what he said, “I have no man to put me in the water.” He was depending on someone else who had power, strength, or vigor to help him get healed.

He was sitting by a pool near the sheep market with a “great multitude” of others that were waiting for the moving of the water. There were blind, halted, impotent folk and those who were withered waiting. Have you noticed a pattern? All of those who were waiting seemed to have an infirmity. Sounds like a hospital but the healing was not for everyone, it was a first come first serve basis.

Infirmity

Imagine sitting by and watching as others got healed. He had an infirmity for 38 years. The word infirmity (Greek) means the state of being weak in health or body (especially from old age) weakness, or sickness (https:///english -to-greek-meaning-infirmity). But what I do like as I read down this passage is that Jesus showed up. Jesus knew the condition of the man and asked him a question.

The explanation provided by the impotent man lead Jesus to give him the instructions that led to his healing. It is important to note that this gentleman believed he could be healed. This was by any means necessary at this point. What would you do if you were found by Jesus in a position waiting for healing? This man has a story that is ministering to anyone that has a condition that is considered an infirmity. Are you encouraged that this man is healed immediately?

Immediately

He was healed when he followed the instructions. There is no hesitation in him. He just did it. Sometimes our hesitation slows down our healing or our belief in our infirmity and the hold it has on our bodies. I want to encourage you today not to hesitate or wait on a man but be healed by the word of the Lord. The definition of immediately without the intervention of any other person or thing; in an immediate manner; without an interval of time; without delay; promptly; instantly (https:///biblehub.com).

Is there anything in your life that you have been waiting to be made whole? I am sure there is. Sometimes we have something lingering. It is holding on and we want to be healed from the condition that causes us to be impotent. The great thing about this story is the impotent man had endurance. He was willing to make moves to be healed. The impotent man shows us that in our waiting, Jesus can notice us and be our help.

Jesus had experience. He healed people time and time again throughout the scriptures. The impotent man is one of many multitudes of people highlighted and made whole. Jesus being the word, spoke a word and the impotent man believed it. The impotent man did not have to wait for the water to move or on a man.

The impotent man was also in the right place and at the right time. Jesus passed by when he was expecting to be healed. This is an example of how he can do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think according to the power that worketh in us (Ephesians 3:20)
