Lead Us not, into Temptation
Godffirmation: godly affirmation and godly confirmation
based on the scriptures
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever
Amen.
Matthew 6:13 KJV
It is possible to be led by the Spirit of God. Many of us have asked to be led by Him. Well there are other scriptures that have the words “led by the Spirit”. This took place when Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit. Guess who was waiting for Him when he got there after a fast? The enemy himself. But you might ask “Why would he be led by the Spirit to a place where the devil would tempt him?” My answer is I don’t know. But since it is in the scriptures, it is an account God wants us to know about and study.
Have you ever felt led by the Spirit? I am sure you have, I know I have. It seems like we want the easy side of things when being led by God without any distortion of reality coming our way. Just be aware that there are two sides to everything. There are synonyms (words that are alike) and antonyms (words that are not alike). There is the truth and a lie. There is new and old. There is less and there is more. There is maximum and minimum. There are two sides to what you will experience when you are led by the spirit of God. “He leadeth me in the path of righteousness” is in the 23rd Psalm but in Matthew, it says lead us not into temptation.
Now I do not know what the temptation stands for in your life, but God does. He has given us something we can ask for, the path of righteousness for His namesake. He asks for deliverance from evil. How fitting that it is right after asking for forgiveness, believe me this is not a coincidence. If you are not delivered from evil, you may need to ask for forgiveness right after you asked for forgiveness. It is important for us to note that so quickly in life when we have been forgiving, here comes another moment of temptation. Is it a bad thing, no! But it is an opportunity for you to see who you are and if you have grown since that last season.
Connect those two scriptures together for whatever is coming up next, Matthew 6:12-13. Verse 13 starts off with ‘and’. In the English language the word ‘and’ is a conjunction. A conjunction is something that creates a connection. This may be a lot to digest when you think of a time when forgiveness slipped out of your mind. There is always deliverance available to you, just ask the Lord.
Temptation here means, trials, tests and afflictions. The Old Testament has a scripture that lets you know that the Lord delivers the righteous (Psalm34:19). So do not be dismayed by what you are facing. It seems like a harsh affliction (James 5:13). You are afflicted if you have continued pain of body or mind as sickness, losses; or grief. You have to pray if you are afflicted. There is a temptation present to complain, gripe, worry, cause strife and destructive patterns of behavior. Know this, God can deliver you through prayer and you may need to fast.
