Great is Your Mercy

Godffirmation: God brand and God-blog offering affirmation & confirmation based on the scriptures

Have you ever heard the statement ‘little things mean a lot’? Depending on the generation you are in you may have heard it. The words are song lyrics by a woman named Kallen Kitty. The song originated in 1953. When I heard this statement my thoughts were not always pleasant. I thought people wanted me to appreciate something small when God does it big. I was taught, little is much when God is in it! God is able to do exceeding abundantly, above all (you get the picture).

When you bump your toe on the side of a bed it is a small thing but it hurts a lot! It only takes a few seconds to happen, but you can break your toe or foot causing a long term injury. If it happens once, you may try your best not to allow it to happen again. Do you remember the last time something like this happened to you? The words that came out of your mouth or entered your mind probably did not involve a blessing (LOL). However, our response in times like this can have an effect that last for a long time.

A short but powerful passage of scripture are found in Psalm 117. It has two verses and is the shortest chapter in the Holy Bible.

Psalm 117:1 O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

King James Version

A proper response is necessary during rough times. When you have a little bit of something, it is often a starting place that shows how you will handle a lot. A ten second experience can change the course of your life. If you are not mindful about your words and your response, the unpleasant things in life may be what you reap.

Generally, the words that come out of our mouths when we are in pain are not well thought out. Emotional outbursts, angry words and unkind statements leak from our mouths during arguments. Stressful surroundings can cause what we thought was healed to come to the forefront of our lives. Confusing life circumstances and painful memories may flood our lives, but they do not have to take over. You have the authority to walk in dominion and this begins with our mindset. Your words shape your world! The word of God has his promises and scriptures come in handy when we are in a bind.

The Lord is full of mercy and compassion. He has extended these to his creation. We must be mindful and not forget about his daily benefits. This is a reminder that God still has more in store for you. Have mercy on yourself by moving forward in the press. Give a Hallel praise to God or say Hallelujah!

Giving praise to the Lord is the premise of the scripture. All nations and all people were included in the declaration. This Psalm has a longer context starting in Psalm 113 and ending in Psalm 118. It is a “Hallel” psalm. All praise and honor should go to God. The mercy that He showed us is unmatched.

The mercy of God is given to us and God is long-suffering. In the Beatitudes, a blessing is pronounced on the merciful. Mercy is also a gift listed in the New Testament book of Romans. We desire mercy when we are in a sinful state. God the just judge showed it to each of his sons and daughters and that is something we can give praise to God about.
